Movie Poster Museum Wins Jazz Foundation Grant

The Louisiana Movie Poster Virtual Museum took a step toward realization with a grant of $1,500 from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc. The 2020-2021 Community Partnership Grant Recipients were announced in December.

The grant was awarded in the Media and Documentation category which supports the creation, documentation or exhibition of art works that reflect, interpret, document, or preserve the indigenous culture of Louisiana.

Movie Poster Archives will use the grant to design an online museum, the Louisiana Movie Poster Virtual Museum. MPA will digitize and publish posters and stills from its collection on the website. More than 3,000 films have been made in or about Louisiana since 1895.

The Museum was inspired by the success of a live exhibit called Backdrop Louisiana! The exhibit was a collaboration with Hollywood on the Bayou and debuted in January 2020.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc., is the nonprofit that owns the world-famous New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell.

Since 1979, the Jazz & Heritage Foundation has invested proceeds from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell directly into the community with grants to fund projects that support the foundation’s mission. Over the last ten years, $8 million has been awarded in Community Partnership Grants.
