Basic Instinct

It started with an unexpected message in August 2020. Ron Harvey wanted to know if he could donate a larger than usual collection of photos. The final count in 2020 would reach 177,200 production stills and movie star portraits, far exceeding Ron’s annual in-kind donation since 2016 of around 10,000 items. The Everett Collection no longer wanted to store photos that had been digitized.

Over the next few months, cartons arrived in New Orleans between hurricanes, wrapped in garbage bags to keep them dry. Organized in alphabetical order, the duplicates were ready to be pulled for the May Lagniappe Auction. Classic film and television stills from the 1930s to the 2000s included sci-fi, animation, horror, and Disney.

A few of the titles in the classic film section of the May auction are BASIC INSTINCT, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, BARRY LYNDON, DOUBLE INDEMNITY, DRACULA, DUNE, THE EXORCIST, THE GODFATHER, GRIFTERS, GROUNDHOG DAY, A FISH CALLED WANDA, BONNIE AND CLYDE, and FLETCH.

Disney films represented are LADY AND THE TRAMP, ALADDIN, BAMBI, and DUMBO, among others.

The classic television items include CHEERS, ER, FALCON CREST, FAME, MURDER SHE WROTE, LONESOME DOVE, THE SIMPSONS, THAT 70S SHOW, MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, and MIAMI VICE.

Cheers
